CHRISTIAN ART: THOMAS KINKADE
Thomas Kinkade is possibly producing some of the most famous Christian art of our time. Is it odd that this famous Christian art is being produced in paintings that are not readily identified as Christian art in the traditional style? I don't think so.
Thomas Kinkade's art does not contain Biblical scenes or scriptures, that is true, but Thomas Kinkade's style of marketing his art is a lesson for all of us.
Thomas Kinkade's company, for example, has a logo of a lighted lamp post followed by the words, "Thomas Kinkade, Painter of Light. While some might think that Thomas Kinkade's lighted logo and the words "painter of light" refers to his painting style, and indeed it does, there is a dual meaning and anytime you see Thomas Kinkade in person, he makes sure that you understand both meanings of the logo and the words.
As Thomas Kinkade promotes his artwork, I am always reminded of the Bible scripture: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16. As Thomas Kinkade shares his faith, we understand the inspiration behind all of his works.
What appears to be ordinary landscapes, cottages, lighthouses and gardens, we realize that the peace, grace and quiet joys that we see in Thomas Kinkade's paintings are indeed influenced by his faith.
Thomas Kinkade is like so many Christian businesspeople who often work in fields that are not always identified as religious or Christian, but he found a wonderful way to share his faith and at the same time he is reaching a broad audience with his subject matter and his comforting style of painting.
It is a lesson learned that we should "let our lights shine" wherever we are, and to glorify God in all that we do.
